FSX Conversion instructions for CalClassic aircraft and Ken Mitchell/Cal Classic Panels

Version 4, 3/09

FSX sound gauge by Doug Dawson

These instructions will convert the FS2004 aircraft and Ken Mitchell/Cal Classic panels for use in FSX. Please use only the latest Base Pack files from www.calclassic.com.

1. Double click the Setup.exe file and install into FSX following the instructions for FS2004. YOU WILL HAVE TO PRESS THE ... BUTTON AND BROWSE TO YOUR MAIN FSX FOLDER.

2. In Windows Explorer/My Computer, find your FSX installation. Look inside the main FSX folder and you will find an AIRCRAFT folder. Inside that you may find the panel's folder (dc6 panel = dc6pnlKMCC, etc.). Move this panel folder to the FSX/SimObjects/Airplanes folder. Move the PropSound folder (if present) to the same folder. Finally, move the plane's folder to the same folder.

3. Copy the dsd_fsx_xml_sound2.dll and dsd_xml_config.gau files found inside this FSX Conversion folder into your FSX/Gauges folder. You will overwrite an older dsd_xml_config.gau file.

4. If you have already installed Mitch's DC-6 panel from AVSIM or elsewhere and have moved the dc6pnlKMCC folder in step 2 above, you may now have an EXTRA gauge CAB file in your main FS GAUGES folder that must be removed (I have provided it loose in a folder instead, to decrease panel load time). Find the Z_DC6KM.cab file and rename it to Z_DC6KM.cab.orig. Mitch's original panel may not FSX compatible as is.

5. To have a proper view out the 2D and VC cockpits, you MUST follow the FSX Tutorial located at: http://www.calclassic.com/propliner_tutorial_fsx.htm.

6. This plane includes a special VC Camera Definition called CalClassic VC View. If chosen, it will eliminate the FSX bug that causes the view of the VC to be incorrect if you press Ctrl-Spacebar to reset the view. Use this view instead of the default VC view to avoid this.

7. If you use FSX SP2 or Acceleration and you have opaque windows in the VC (especially when raining), you need to download and install the Flight1 Virtual Cockpit Rain Fix for FSX here: http://www.flight1software.com/fsxtools/f1_fsx_vcrainfix.exe. Or go to www.flight1.com and go to their Free Downloads page.
